Futures Knights News

February is the season of love – of hearts and candy and flowers and valentines. February is also the time when families are presented with the opportunity to reflect on the current school year and to make a conscious and deliberate choice for their child’s education next school year.

In California, school enrollment is compulsory by law. Even were this not true, as parents we understand the value of quality education and how that education can set our students up for success as they continue their journey to college, career, and life. Every child has an option to attend the neighborhood public school designated for their address. In Gateway Community Charters (GCC) we believe that a quality public school choice is a civil right – and that every child deserves a high-quality school, regardless of address or zip code. While some parents and families may find that their district neighborhood public school meets their child’s needs – others are looking for options.

Over the last 17 plus years, GCC has created nine high-quality public school options to meet these needs. Some options include Community Collaborative Charter and Sacramento Academic and Vocational Academy which are considered non-classroom based and include a lot of independent time and work by the student. Other GCC schools include Higher Learning Academy (HLA), Empowering Possibilities International Charter (EPIC), Gateway International School (GIS), Futures High School, Community Outreach Academy (COA) elementary and middle schools. Many of these last schools have over time had a strong partnership with the Slavic community. As public charter schools, our schools have a commitment to partnering with parents and the community in powerful ways. We have a solid reputation for creating a school with academic and behavioral rigor, high-quality teachers and leaders, and a strong sense of relationships and connectedness across and among staff, parents, and the community.

Futures High School welcomes the opportunity to partner with you to meet the social-emotional and educational needs or your child in the 2020-21 school year!

National School Choice Week

Held every January, National School Choice Week shines a positive spotlight on effective education options for every child.

The goal of National School Choice Week (NSCW) is to raise public awareness of all types of education options for children. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling.

To meet this goal, NSCW encourages schools, organizations, and individuals to hold positive events that celebrate school choice options, while drawing attention to the need for even greater opportunities for children.

Started in 2011, NSCW has grown into the world’s largest celebration of opportunity in education. The Week is a nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort.
